Language Arts: Week 1

This week in Language Arts we started off class with a picture of a mural. We wrote down everything we thought of and then had a discussion about the mural. As a class we then made our own mural, a tree with leaves. Some of the important things we learned this week were the 3 components of language. The 3 components are oral language, decoding, and comprehension. We also discussed the importance of Prior Knowledge. We made a KWL chart as a class about India. The first day of class we were also asked to bring in an example of how we view ourselves as language arts teachers. We were to compare ourselves to an object and we then shared them with the class. I felt it was a very successful first week. I am able to take a lot of knowledge away from this first week and I am ready to start applying it in the classroom.
